How you can find the crape myrtle?

Crape myrtle is a flowering tree which has a long blooming period. It is as long as from midsummer to the end of autumn and it may even extend throughout the winter. The tree is very popular in the south.

Description
The attractive bark looks really good all around the year. The bark sheds all around the year, adding to the beauty. When the new bark shows it is cinnamon colored or a pinkish hue which depends on which kind of tree you are growing. The leaves during fall change color from bright yellow to brilliant orange to a deep red. The leaves are generally of the size 2 to 4 inches.

Flowers
The flowers are a treat to one’s eyes. The petals have a papery texture and feels like crepe paper to touch. A flowering crape myrtle is a sight to behold. A riot of colors which lasts for months at a time is a very spectacular view. The flowers have a shade of pink, white, purple and a bright glowing red which will definitely make your neighbor jealous.


Types of the tree
·         Crape Myrtle L. Fauriei – This is a crape myrtle native to Japan. The tree is about the height of 20 to 30 feet with long branches. The leaves turn yellow in autumn. The smooth gray bark weathers away to show a light cinnamon colored bark. The small white flowers which bloom in clusters.

·         Crape Myrtle L. Indicia – This is a tree found in the southern regions. The tree can tolerate harsh weather conditions and can survive in any kind of soil. If the temperature drops consequently the tree will freeze, but it will automatically re sprout in the spring. The leaves are dark green in color, and short in size and narrow in length. The leaves change to a brilliant red or a bright orange in color during fall. The bark has a light brown color and reveals a light pink inner bark.
