Mother –
this is one word, the whole world looks up with great respect and love, however
what the world does not know that behind every mother there is dual identity of
a narcissistic mother.
In most cases, the narcissism is being controlled and the mother involves
herself in general motherhood activities. However the story takes a different
turn when it comes to a mother who is affected by narcissism.
Some
general traits
The general traits of a narcissistic mother would include the urge t get attention and limelight always and
the desire to control the child every time. These mothers would show less signs
of empathy and patience which would affect the child in a very adverse manner
in the future. Life of child would become like walking on a thin rope, as she
has to be alert on how will her mother react at which demand or activity of
hers.
No criticism, no empathy
A very
common trait of a mother affected by narcissism is that she would never want to
put herself in the shoes of the child and think on the lines of the child’s
thought process. All they would be bothered about is how the child’s activities
are affecting them and their image in front of the whole world. If, by mistake
a child decides to take on his mother and comments critically on any of her
tasks, the narcissistic mother would grow hypertensive and lose patience, however, when it
comes to criticize someone or something, they would not fall behind the crowd.
Tendency
to pull the morale down
A child would come to know that he or she has a
mother affected by narcissism when a fault is being identified in any major
activity which normally should have been appreciated. To make things worse, no
word of apology would be sufficient to please the mother. She, instead of encouraging,
would indirectly or directly pull the self-courage and confidence levels of the
young one if things do not go the way she would want.
Anyone who is a sufferer of narcissism wants the
world to revolve around him or her, and when it is a mother who wants so, it
becomes a bit difficult a situation for the child who always want the caring
and nurturing face of his mother to look at.
