Division of Generations of E-cigarettes

Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes are devices which run on battery and produce vapour which the smoker inhales. These devices are gaining popularity each day as their advantages are being realised. This device has been manufactured for many years now and has been divided into three generations based on the modifications.

First generation

The first generation e-cigarettes look similar to tobacco cigarettes and are thus, known as ‘cigalikes’. This design of this device is of a single unit. This unit consists of all the parts that make up the ‘cigalikes’. A battery and coil along with a filling which is saturated with e-juice are the contents of a single ‘cigalike’. The machine is disposed after either the juice is used up or the battery dies.  A reusable type was also created in which the battery and cartridge could be separated. When the battery dies or the cartridge needs replacement it can be done without the need to discard the entire device.

Second generation

The devices of this generation are meant for use by experienced users. These devices are large and do not resemble cigarettes. E-cigarettes of the second generation come with large non-removable batteries. They deliver higher capacity and require a USB charger for charging the device. Some of the cheaper batteries used in these devices require a microphone to activate them. Some other batteries require an integrated circuit. These batteries show the status of the charge on a LED if one is attached to the device. A power button was also introduced in these devices to turn on and turn off the battery. These batteries might also come with adjustable power options.

Third generation

The third generation of e-cigarettes includes variable voltage devices and mechanical mods. Both these parts are referred to as mods and are present in the battery section of an e-cig. These variable devices are mechanical in nature and can be present in a box or be cylindrical in shape. It can be made of aluminium, brass, or stainless steel. These devices use large batteries and these batteries can be replaced or removed. This generation devices use rebuildable atomizers which provide vapers an option to choose the wicking material.
